The Proviso East Lady Pirates captured the West Suburban Gold Conference title with a 56-41 victory over Lyons Township Wednesday evening in Maywood. Cinia McCray scored 19 points to lead Proviso East as they improved their 2014-15 season record to, 22-3. DaTasia Almon and Diamond Copeland continue to come up big for the Lady Pirates, as well.
The Pirates will begin their state championship run by being competing in the Whitney Young sectional, which is regarded as one of the toughest sectionals in the state. The top four seeds in the Young Sectional — Young, Trinity, Proviso East and Riverside-Brookfield — all enter the playoffs with at least 22 wins. The Pirates don’t have an easy path, with potential games against Hinsdale Central, Trinity and Young, but they average 66.2 points and 29.8 rebounds per game. Five players, led by Cinia McCray, average at least 8.6 points per game to make the Pirates a dangerous team. With Head Coach Ezra Pridgeon and Asst. Coach Chip Carswell at the helm, the Lady Pirates have turned into a force to be reckoned with.
